South Korean filmmaker born August 23, 1963 in Seoul. Oldboy (2003), the centerpiece of his Vengeance Trilogy (alongside Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance), won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and is the film most responsible for introducing Western audiences to Korean revenge cinema.
