Rian Johnson

American filmmaker born December 17, 1973. Made his directorial debut with the neo-noir high-school mystery Brick (2005), then broke into the mainstream with the time-travel thriller Looper (2012) and the blockbuster space opera Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). Johnson returned to the whodunit genre he started in with Knives Out (2019), writing and directing an original ensemble mystery that earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and launched the ongoing Benoit Blanc film series.
